The basic factor of John’s first Epistle is that the true God becomes our experience as eternal life; in this book we see the enjoyment of the Triune God as eternal life, and when we’re in the true God, He becomes eternal life to us.
Amen, Lord Jesus, bring us into the experiences we need in order for us to realise that we are in the true God, God is in us, and the true God becomes eternal life to us! Wow, Lord, may we realise that we believers in Christ are not only saved from eternal perdition but even more, we are in God and God is in us! Hallelujah, the true God becomes eternal life to us in our experience! Amen!
This week we have been prayerfully considering the matter of the true God as seen in the first Epistle of John. The conclusion of this epistle is 1 John 5:20, which shows us that we are truly one with the Triune God, and He becomes true, real, to us.
We believers in Christ come to know the Triune God by experiencing and enjoying Him. He is not only the object of our faith; He is dwelling in us as our life and life supply for our experience and enjoyment.
For us to know the Triune God, we must be in the line of life and in the process of the growth in life.
The more we believers in Christ grow in the divine life, the more we will be concerned with the Divine Trinity.
In his Epistles, the apostle John reveals the Triune God – the Father, the Son, and the Spirit. The revelation of the Divine Trinity in John’s Epistles is not merely for our mental understanding or apprehension; it is for us to enjoy, experience, and possess.
God the Father is the source of life, God the Son came to manifest God and make propitiation for our sins, and the Spirit is the Spirit of reality for us to know God subjectively.
We are abiding in God the Father and He in us, God the Father has given us of His Spirit, and the Father has sent the Son as the Saviour of the world.
Thank the Lord, we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding that we might know Him who is true. And we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life (1 John 5:20).
Thank the Lord that we have an understanding to know Him who is true, the true One, the true God and His Son Jesus Christ.
We need the Lord’s shining, even His fresh light, on this verse, for us to know the true One and to realise we are in Him and He is in us, and when we’re in the true God, He becomes eternal life to us. Hallelujah!
We are Experiencing the True God by Being in Him: This to us is the True God and Eternal Life

Verse 20 in first John chapter 5 indicates strongly that we are now experiencing the true God, and we are experiencing Him by being in Him.
We believers in Christ do not only have an outward, objective knowledge of God; rather, the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding so that we may know the true God.
How do we know the true God? He is true, He is not a liar, He is not a lie, and He is not untrue, but He is genuine, true, and always real. We know the true God by being in God.
We believers in Christ experience, enjoy, and possess the true God by being in the true God; this, to us, is the true God and eternal life.
1 John 4:16 tells us that we know and have believed the love which God has in us; God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God and God abides in him.
God doesn’t just have love; God is love, He has love, and even more, He has love in us. When we abide in God, when we enjoy God and experience God as the true One, God has love in us, and we have believed the love which God has in us.
God is love, and when we abide in love we abide in God and God abides in us. This is so wonderful!
1 John 5:11-12 further tells us that this is the testimony, that God gave to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. We believers in Christ who have the Son have the life, and he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
We are believers in Christ and sons of God, and we have the Son of God; therefore, we have the life.
This is what we testify to others; God is not only life and He not only has life, but He gave us eternal life and this life is in His Son.
By virtue of being in Christ, the Son of God, we have life. We are now truly one with the Triune God, and He becomes real, true, to us. He becomes reality and life to us because we are in Him.
Therefore, because we are in God and we are enjoying and experiencing God, we stay away from idols, and we even guard ourselves from idols (1 John 5:21).
Here, to guard ourselves is to garrison ourselves against attacks from without, such as the assaults of the heresies.
What are idols? Idols are substitutes for God, anything and anyone that substitutes God in our being.
Anything that replaces God in our being, any person, thing, or even teaching that replaces God, we need to reject.
We need to stay away from all the vain replacements for our genuine and real God, for we are organically one with Him and He is eternal life to us.
We stay away from idols not merely because they are bad or because they distract us from Christ; we guard ourselves from idols because we are in Christ, we are joined to Him, and we are in the true God.
We have an organic union with Him, we enjoy and experience Him, and we are so one with Him, even we are in Him, that we stay away from anything that is fake and tries to replace Him. Amen!
Thank the Lord that the Son of God has come through incarnation to bring God to us as grace and reality so that we may have the divine life and partake of God as love and light!
Now that we have been regenerated by God, we have the faculty of our mind enlightened and empowered by the Spirit of reality to apprehend the divine reality in our regenerated spirit.
We now have the ability of the divine life to know the true God in our regenerated spirit through our renewed mind, enlightened by the Spirit of reality.
We know Him who is true, the genuine and real God. We know He is true, the True, opposed to anything and anyone that is false and counterfeit.
We are also in Him; we not only know the true God but we are in Him! We are in an organic union with Him, joined to Him organically! Hallelujah!
Praise the Lord, we believers in Christ are now experiencing the true God by being Him! Wow, we are in the true God and in His Son Jesus Christ! Amen, Lord, enlighten the eyes of our heart to see You and realise our position in God and in Christ. May we see that, through faith in Christ, we are brought into an organic union with the Lord for us to be in the true God, even in the true! Praise the Lord, we are now experiencing the true God by being in Him! May we realise that we are now truly one with the Triune God and He becomes true, real to us. Hallelujah, the true God becomes reality and life to us because we are in Him! Amen, Lord, we love You and we love being here, in You, one with You, joined to You organically. We guard ourselves from any idols. We do not allow anything that is counterfeit or fake to replace You as the true God. We stand against any replacements for the genuine and real God with whom we are organically joined and who is eternal life to us! Amen!
When we are in Him, the True God becomes our Experience as Eternal Life to us

We not only know the true One but we are also in the true One (1 John 5:20). We are in the true One and in His Son Jesus Christ.
Because we are in God, He now experientially becomes true to us. Because we are in Jesus Christ, He becomes experientially true to us.
The true God becomes our experience as eternal life (1 John 1:2; 2:25; 5:11, 13; John 3:15-16, 36; 4:14; 5:24).
The entire first Epistle of John has a basic factor: the true God becomes our experience as eternal life.
From the very first chapter to the last verse in this Epistle we see that the Triune God wants to reveal Himself to us, dispense His eternal life into us, bring us into the fellowship of life, help us maintain the fellowship of life, grow in life, enter into an organic union with Him, be one with Him, and become real to us in our experience.
The Triune God is not just for our theological understanding or apprehension; He wants to be intimately related to us, joined to us, even mingled with us.
Before we believers in Christ were saved, we were outside of God. In Himself, God was true, even the true One, but we could not say that in our experience He was true to us.
But after we believed in the Lord Jesus, we entered into God! Wow, by faith in Christ we not only were joined to Him organically in spirit; we entered into God!
We not only know the true One but we are in the true One! The knowledge that we have of God is not merely objective, something in the mental realm; it is an intimate, subjective, and spiritual knowledge, for we are in God.
We are now in God and God is in us; the true God becomes our experience as eternal life. This is the basic factor of John’s first Epistle.
In this Epistle, we have the enjoyment of the Triune God as eternal life. When we enjoy the Triune God as eternal life, we are in the Triune God; when we are in the true God, He becomes eternal life to us.
To be in the true One is to be in His Son Jesus Christ. Because we are in God, He now experientially becomes true to us.
Through faith in Christ, we were brought into an organic union with Him; we are now in Christ. We are in the true God and in His Son Jesus Christ; we are in the Triune God who was processed and consummated for Him to be in us and for us to be in Him.
Because we are in Jesus Christ, He becomes experientially true to us. Due to our experience of God and Christ by being in God and in Christ, we can say that this is the true God and eternal life.
If we look at the true God, Jesus Christ, and eternal life from the point of view of doctrine, we may say that these are three different things. But in our experience, these three are one. The true God and eternal life are one, for we enjoy the Triune God as eternal life in our experience.
When we are in the true God, He becomes eternal life to us.
In our daily living, we need to contact the Lord, remain in the touch with Him, and abide in Him in all things by following the inner anointing which teaches us all things.
As we follow the teaching of the anointing, the inner moving and operating of the Triune God (1 John 2:27), which is true and is not a lie, we abide in Him.
We simply abide in the Lord, the Son of God Jesus Christ. The inner moving of the anointing Spirit teaches us all things, and as a result, we abide in God and in His Son Jesus Christ.
As we thus abide, we are in the true God, and He becomes eternal life to us.
This is why the Lord told us to first abide in Him and then He abides in us; we first abide in Him by following the teaching of the anointing, and then He abides in us as eternal life, for the true God becomes eternal life to us.
The true God in whom we abide becomes our experience as eternal life. We not only get some life; we get the true God, we are in the true God, and this true God becomes our experience as eternal life.
First, we enjoy the Triune God as eternal life, we remain in the fellowship of life, and we are in the true God. Now the true God contains us, and when we are in the true God, He becomes eternal life to us. Wow!
This is the true God and eternal life! When we are in the true One, He becomes eternal life in us.
We can say this out loud to everyone to hear and see: when I am in the true One, He becomes eternal life to me! When I am in the true God, the true God becomes my experience as eternal life! Praise the Lord!
This eternal life is the true God being real to us in our experience.
We need much prayer and opening to the Lord regarding this, for mental understanding is not enough; we need to enter into the experience and enjoyment of this divine reality.
Lord Jesus, may we see that the true God becomes our experience as eternal life as we are in Him! Praise the Lord, through repentance and faith in Christ, we have been brought into an organic union with the Triune God! Amen, Lord, You are true, You are the true, and apart from You everything else is false! We exercise our spirit to enjoy You as life today. You are eternal life to us, and we have the flow of life, the fellowship of life, in our spirit. Thank You, Lord, we have the anointing from the holy One, and we know all things; this is true and is not a lie, and according to the teaching of the anointing, we abide in the Lord! Amen, Lord, we are in Christ and we are in the true God! Thank the Lord, when we are in the true One, He becomes eternal life to us! Wow, because the true God is real to us, in our experience He becomes our eternal life! Amen, this is the true God and eternal life!

Life-study of 1 John, pp. 351-352, by Witness Lee
Dear brother, when we are in the true One, we are in His Son Jesus Christ.
Then the true One becomes our God, and His Son Jesus Christ becomes eternal life to us. This eternal life is actually the true God.
Ameeen!!!
We know that we are in the true God and in eternal life because we are in the true One and in His Son Jesus Christ. When we are in the true One and in His Son Jesus Christ, They become one to us; the true God and eternal life.
Now in our experience this true One becomes the true God, and Jesus Christ becomes eternal life. This means that the very God who has become experiential to us through our being in Him. The true God becomes our experience as eternal life. This is the basic factor of John’s first Epistle. Hence, the true God and eternal life include our being in the true One and His Son Jesus Christ; these 4 in our experience are just one.
In 1 John we have the enjoyment of the Triune God as eternal life.
Amen and amen brother.
God charges us to guard ourselves from idols. How do we guard ourselves? By being in Him. We experience, enjoy & possess God by being in Him. We have a spirit of love, power & sound mindedness.
We must exercise our heart & spirit to turn away from anything that replaces the real & true God.
Our biggest idols are bad habits, ideologies, philosophies, culture and traditions.
In Matthew 15 Jesus said that traditions transgress the commandments of God.
Hallelujah for this eternal life that is in us…!
